Kingman is referred to as the Gateway to Hoover Dam and Las Vegas.

Kingman was establishes as a railroad stop in 1883 on the last leg along the 35th parallel. Because of the railroad, Mohave County’s most important city was selected as county seat in 1887.

An interesting piece of Hollywood trivia is that Clark Gable and Carole Lombard were married in the little Methodist Church in Kingman. Actor Andy Devine, though born in Flagstaff, was raised in Kingman and always referred to it as his hometown.
